Alcoholics Anonymous Myanmar
For those who have a drinking problem
Due to the current situation in the country there are no English speaking meetings, either live or on Zoom. If you are a member of AA or someone who needs help please make contact through the contact form. Please note there are only a few AA Members in the country. Some meet casually and others meet with overseas groups on Zoom.
Australia – This Australian site shows you the next online meeting. You are welcome to attend.
Burmese Speaking Zoom Meetings – Yes
In Myanmar, we have three Burmese meetings per week on Zoom. Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7 pm Myanmar time. Burmese speakers are welcome. Please note these meetings are in the Burmese language – no English. For details please make contact using the contact form on this site.
Burmese International/Translations/Dialects
We have some translations on this website. They are waiting approval from Central Service Office. Please note if you print these you will need a Burmese person to confirm they are readable. It becomes confusing as there are two main fonts – Unicode and Sawgyi. Not all printers can print if the correct font is not installed. Not all Myanmar people can read Burmese.
Google Translate – NO. This is based on existing dictionaries of which many are old. Many times the translations won’t make any sense, so don’t rely on it.
ChatGpt Burmese – YES. The translations are pretty good. Just feed in the existing English. We have been told the translations are about 90% correct.
Other Burmese Languages. ChatGpt has a knowledge of other Burmese languages but its proficiency varies. Shan – Spoken primarily by the Shan people in the Shan State. Karen (or Kayin) – A group of languages including Sgaw and Pwo, spoken by the Karen ethnic groups. Kachin – Also known as Jingpho, spoken by the Kachin people in northern Myanmar. Chin – A group of related languages spoken by the Chin people, including Hakha and Falam. Mon – Spoken by the Mon people, primarily in Mon State.
We do not have literature locally. Central Service Office in New York has some pamphlets in Burmese and one or two other dialects.
Not all Myanmar people speak Burmese. The person you are assisting may be from Myanmar but may only speak in a dialect e.g. Shan, Kayin (Karen), Rakhine, Mon, Chin and Kachin. Even though they are welcome to attend the Burmese online meetings they may not understand the Burmese tongue.
International Zoom Meetings
There are meetings all over the world on Zoom. And you are welcome to join these meeting. If you don’t want to speak at a meeting, you can listen – you are under no obligation to speak.
International 24/7 Zoom meeting. On the hour every hour.
